Community Commendations: Committees and Information

Hello Everyone!

The Community Commendation Project was created to highlight and celebrate the individuals within the community. To ensure a fair and transparent process to help that goal, a selection committee helps review nominations and identify the top candidates in each category.

I hope to bring a little more clarity into the whole process, from the guidelines of the committee members to identifying the winners.

1

No Nominee/Judge Crossover

Members forgo any nomination in the category they serve on.

2

Unbiased Judgment

Decisions are made based on merit rather than personal history.

3

Conflict of Interest

Direct connections to nominees, whether positive or negative, must be disclosed.

4

Respect & Fairness

All nominees are treated with dignity, regardless of past disagreements or competition.

5

Transparency

Committee members may be publicly listed, ensuring accountability if fairness is questioned.

6

Availability

Committee members must be able to work in their schedule at least 2 meetings with fellow committee members, one for the nominee phase, and one for the winner phase, during their respective windows.

Committees consist of 2-5 various members of the community (with different members across categories). Rangercali (Thats me hello!) will act as the lead committee member across all categories, but my voice will carry the same weight as any other committee member and not over the community, unless a tiebreaker is needed (Community vote ties -> Judges vote is split on unanimous winner -> Decision on winner).

How Selecting the Nominees Will Work | How Finalists Will Work

Nominee Selection

  • Each category begins with all submitted nominations reviewed by the committee.
  • After discussion, the pool is narrowed down to the top four nominees based on impact, merit, and alignment with the award category.

Winner Selection

  • Winners are determined by a combination of community vote and committee oversight.

    • Community vote carries the most weight, reflecting the voice of the larger audience.
    • The committee ensures fairness by:
      1. Identifying any irregularities (ex: bot activity or substantial monetary incentives were used).
      2. Confirming that the nominee upholds the values of the category.
      3. Considering whether another nominee demonstrates equal commitment but may lack the same online reach or visibility.

Additional Rules & Clarification

  • A few additional rules help ensure smooth operations and clarity:
    • Nomination Limits: No individual can appear in more than two (2) categories.
    • Eligibility Restrictions: Current professional employees of Halo Studios are not eligible for nomination. Being employed by Esports Engine, HCS Partner Orgs, or limited Contacts employees do not fall in this category and CAN be nominees.
    • Discussion Standards: Deliberations remain respectful, constructive, and focused on merit.

About Community Commendations

This is about recognizing the people who show up, give back, and keep Halo thriving in ways big and small. Whether you are shouting from the stands, forging new maps, running grassroots events, or creating spaces for people to connect, this is for you.
