Hey All! I have come to tell you how much I like the Prometheans. I love the way they look, the way their weapons assemble and fire, and their wall hack ability is cool too. I know not many like them, but I can't bring myself to hate these enemies. How does everyone else feel about these guys?
From a pure gameplay standpoint, I feel they're overtuned. Any more than one knight on legendary in Halo 4, it gets to be a problem. They're not so bad in 5, but a little more enemy variety would have been really nice. That being said, I did enjoy the shakeup they brought to the usual, standard fare of Alien and Flood enemies. And narratively they're pretty neat, too. (I'm not going to miss Warden Eternal any time soon, though.)
Cool concept brought down by the artstyle and absolutely ass game design, turns out fighting enemies that dont clearly show their shield status, constantly teleport/run away, and revive their most powerful units in a campaign that is really stingy on ammo is not fun
They’re great in concept but need some tuning for gameplay. The knights I think actually got a good rework in 5 and could be a template for Prometheans going forward. Like maybe the wings can be blown off watchers and they’ll still fly, but will be far less effective or perhaps a module can be added that you can shoot off so they can’t deploy hard light shields or throw grenades.
Though I guess that’s a bit more as an enemy in the series. In context to 4 I’d either limit Knights’ teleports to LoS or remove teleporting and bring back the rollerball that we saw in vidocs and was supposed to release with digsite (RIP). Watchers, like 25-50% less health, same with crawlers. Both either get too spongy or too evasive and this is more annoying since Campaign and S-Ops both have swarms of them.
I hate to be so negative but I struggled to get through 4 almost entirely because of the Prometheans. It started to feel like 343 was purposefully trying to torture its players. I figured it must be part of a broader design decision, as if some grand reveal was going to happen in the game that'd make it all ok, all worth while. Looking back it seems like a distant feverish nightmare, as if it couldn't possibly have happened. Why would someone willingly choose to swap out the bulk of the enemy types from that of the iconic, charming and entertaining covenant races, to that of monotonous, annoying, charmless, factory-line robots. I actually think its a little bit part of a broader problem Halo has, and that is when it pushes too much into forerunner content. There comes a point when the tech is so advanced, it just has the same effect as magic to the viewer. Halo is best when it feels more grounded. Drop pods, naval battles in space, and combustion powered vehicles. Lol. Sorry for the rant.
To everyone who doesn't like the prometheans: That is completely fine. I won't get mad at you for your gripes with these enemies. I wanted to hear all sorts of answers, and I got them. No harm done.
